A Book Review: Jesus Calling - Enjoying Peace In His Presence

Exodus 33:14-15 And He said," My Presence will go with you and I will give you rest." Then he (Moses) said to Him, "If Your Presence does not go with us, do not bring us up from here." Did you ever notice that the word Presence is capitalized?  If you have ever wondered about that, or are you just now wondering about it, this is the devotional you should read.

From the very first devotion, I decided the author, Sarah Young must be living my life. My devotionals always start in the middle of the year, so the first one I read was July 5th.  It said, "Draw near to me with a thank heart, aware that your cup is overflowing with blessings. Gratitude enables you to perceive Me more clearly and to rejoice in our Love-relationship. Nothing can separate you from My loving Presence! That is the basis of your security."

I highly recommend that you read the Introduction to the devotional because it will give you insight to the author's perspective.  Young  says, "I have been writing in prayer journals for years, but that was one-way communication: I did all the talking, I knew that God communicated with me through the Bible, but I yearned for more...I decided to listen to God with pen in hand, writing down whatever I believed He was saying."  These devotions are the result of that writing, so when you see a reference to Me or My she is referencing the Lord.

The devotional from July 5th concludes with, "Instead of striving for a predictable, safe lifestyle, seek to know Me in greater depth and breadth. I long to make your life a glorious adventure, but you must stop clinging to old ways. I am always doing something new within My beloved ones. Be on the lookout for all that I have prepared for you."  The biblical references are:  Romans 8:38-39, Psalm 56:3-4, & Isaiah 43:19.

The author concludes the introduction with, " Themes of thankfulness and trust recurred often during my listening times. These themes are quite prevelent in the Bible, and they are essential if we are to enjoy Jesus' Presence and Peace."

The cost of this leather-bond devotional is around $20.

God Bless,
Denise M
